Deferred Prosecution for Youth
A mistake made when you're young should not affect the rest of your life. The youth diversion program in Texas takes this seriously and offers an alternative to criminal punishments for minor or victimless crimes. Are you or your child between the ages of 17 and 21 with no previous criminal background? Was your child charged with shoplifting, criminal mischief, burglary or another related crime? Talk with an experienced defense attorney about the youth diversion program as an alternative option to court.
Youth Diversion Program Process
The youth diversion program (also called deferred prosecution program) is run by the district attorney's office as a separate case outside of normal court proceedings. Those who meet the initial qualifications must complete the program application within 30 days of the arrest and mail it in to the appropriate office. There are no fees or additional hassle so long as the application is accurate and complete.
If the application is accepted, the youth will undergo a strict and supervised probationary period. When he or she completes the program, the case is dismissed and is a candidate for expunction; it may be completely wiped clean from record.
